Genie Energy is a public American company comprised of two divisions: IDT Energy and Genie Oil and Gas (GOGAS).
GOGAS is a resource and technology development company which owns the Israeli subsidiary Genie Israel Oil and Gas.
In February 2013, the oil council of the Israeli Ministry of Energy and Water granted Genie Israel Oil and Gas an exclusive, three-year petroleum exploration license for the occupied Golan Heights. According to the company's press release, the license covers 396.5 square kilometers of the southern Golan Heights.
In February 2015, Afek Oil and Gas announced that it has finished the preparations on the ground and began drilling for oil in the south of the Golan.
Israel’s exploitation of occupied natural resources is a violation of Article 55 of the Hague Regulations (among other provisions of International Humanitarian Law), the Geneva Convention, and Customary International Law.
