Arotech is a defense and security products and services company. It manufactures and designs products for military and non-military air and ground vehicles; interactive simulation for military, law enforcement and commercial markets, and batteries and charging systems for the military. Arotech operates through two major business divisions: Interactive simulation for military, law enforcement and commercial markets, and batteries and power systems for the military.
MDT Armor is a fully owned subsidiary of Arotech Corporation and composes a part of its Armor Division. MDT Armor, in collaboration with MDT Protective Industries and the Israeli army, has developed the 'David' - an armored patrol and reconnaissance vehicle, designed for urban combat (Land Rover (link is external)'s 110 and 130 Defender models constitute the chassis upon which David is built). The David vehicles have been in service with the Israeli Army since 2004, and have become the standard patrol vehicle, with hundreds units of it deployed around Gaza and inside the West Bank. The David is also commonly used by the Civil Administration.
David Vehicles are used by the Israeli army to protect illegal settlements and military bases along the West Bank, to prevent Palestinian shepherds from herding on their lands and to oppress Palestinian demonstrators. David Vehicles carrying tear Gas launchers on their roofs were used during non violence demonstrations in the village of Nabi Saleh.
On October 2009, the company has signed an agreement with Israel Military Industries (IMI) to jointly market the David in markets worldwide.
MDT Protective Industries, another fully owned subsidiary of Arotech, also supplies armed vehicles to the Israeli Police and the Israeli Security Service.
